Scholarly, Practical, Professional

Photo of Atwood Hall

The Education Department, located in Atwood Hall on the St. Lawrence University campus, provides undergraduate and graduate programs in education to prepare teachers, counselors, and educational leaders for service in public and private schools and in the community.

The department features linkages with the region's schools, neighboring colleges, and educational organizations to provide professional development opportunities for practicing educators. The programs offer a unique combination of scholarly and practical approaches to education in the liberal arts tradition.

St. Lawrence University’s teacher education program is accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC) for a period of 5 years, from June 29, 2007 to June 29, 2012.

St. Lawrence University's Department of Education is a member of the governing council of the Learner Centered Resource Collaborative, along with Niagara University's School of Education,  the Jefferson-Lewis BOCES, and the Institute for Learning Centered Education.  The Collaborative sponsors the annual Constructivist Design Conference held each summer at St. Lawrence University.  The Collaborative also sponsors publication of the Journal for the Practical Application of Constructivist Theory in Education (JPACTe).

Placement File Mailing Fee Increase Effective July 1.

Effective July 1, 2009, the fee for all placement file mailings will increase from $5 to $7.  This includes postal mailings, electronic mailings, and faxes.

With the rising cost of supplies and postage, we have found it necessary to increase this service fee.  Please keep in mind that even with this particular increase, all fees associated with our placement service are still considerably lower than many other college and universities across the country.

We are available to assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.  Please contact the service coordinator, Erin Basford, at ebasford@stlawu.edu or call (315) 229-5868.
